Buchanan is a month into his first school year as the Milan School Resource Officer.
Students at Milan Community Schools were greeted by a new face this school year as Cody Buchanan began serving as the corporation’s school resource officer.
Buchanan was hired for the position in May and officially began his duties July 1. His first day with students was Aug. 5. He succeeds Dan Goris, who served as Milan’s school resource officer for four years and now substitutes for Batesville Community School Corporation.
A South Ripley graduate, Buchanan served in the U.S. Marine Corps until 2007. He later worked for Precision Trenching before joining the Versailles Police Department as deputy marshal in 2019. He and his wife, Tracy, have three children: Brogan, a senior at South Ripley; Dylan, a sixth grader at South Ripley; and Luke, a second grader at South Ripley.
Buchanan said his experience and training with the Versailles Police Department prepared him to handle the variety of situations that can arise within a school setting. He is responsible for helping protect approximately 1,000 students across Milan’s elementary, middle and high schools.
“Milan is an awesome place to be,” Buchanan told The Versailles Republican. “Everyone in the corporation has welcomed me, and everyone is helpful and easy to work with.”
