Robert J. Linville, 71, of Osgood passed away at 12:45 p.m., Sunday, September 17, 2023 at his home. 

He was born in Batesville on May 4, 1952, the son of Gordon and Hilda Herbert Linville. He was married to Carolyn Cullen on August 5, 1972 and his wife of 51 years survives. Other survivors include two sons Brandon (Liz) Linville and Travis (Cortney) Linville both of Osgood; five grandchildren Trent, Lindsey, Lydia, Tyler, and Kylie Linville; two brothers Gordy Linville of Elizabeth, West Virginia and Roger (Donna) Linville of Osgood; two sisters Cathy (Bill) Wagner of Osgood and Sharon (Roger Linkmeyer) Biddle of Napoleon. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law Jim Biddle, and his sister-in-law Talina Linville.

Mr. Linville was a 1971 graduate of Jac-Cen-Del High School. Bob’s working career spanned over 50 years, but he was best known for owning and operating Bob’s Service Station in Osgood from 1994 until his retirement in 2021. He had also been employed with Vines Trucking, Baylor Trucking, and the Ripley County Highway Garage. He was elected to and served as Ripley County Commissioner from 2014 until 2018. Bob was a former member of the Osgood Lions Club, the Napoleon Fire Department, and the Osgood Fire Department. His passion was cars, participating in drag car racing at Edgewater and taking his 68 and 2012 Camaros to car shows. His greatest passion and love in his life however was his grandchildren. Bob also enjoyed the many friends and acquaintances he made during the years that he ran his service station.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 21st at 10 a.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Mike Cantrell of the Versailles Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in the St. John Cemetery in Napoleon. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4 p.m.to 8 p.m. Memorials may be given to the Margaret Mary Cancer Center or the St. John Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
