New firehouse goes up in New Marion

In March of 2023, The New Marion Fire Department determined that a new fire house needed to be built to accommodate the firetrucks. Since 1972, they have grown and need more space.
On Monday Jan. 29, the fire department started their new chapter for the new firehouse on Old Michigan Rd in New Marion (Holton address). The Amish community agreed to supply the labor to build the building. The materials for the new fire house came from New Marion Sales and the roofing materials came from Countryside Roofing.
On Wednesday, Jan. 31, the Osgood Journal spoke with Ben Smoker, Asst. Chief of New Marion Fire Dept., at the job site stating, “Everyone has pitched in from the community to make this happen. It is moving right along and by Friday, (February 2) the crew should have the roof and most of the metal done on the building.” Everyday, rain or shine, the crew of men have dedicated their time to get the firehouse completed in a very short amount of time.
It really takes a village to make something like this happen. Local businesses and individuals have also offered their help with the construction. Fundraisers and community donations were done throughout last year to make this endeavor happen. The firehouse is being built without taxpayer money. Look forward to final photos in just a few weeks.
