Alice Jane “Janie” Peetz

Alice Jane “Janie” Peetz

Alice Jane “Janie” Peetz, age 88 of Oldenburg, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, September 15, 2024, at The Waters of Batesville with her family by her side. Born February 23, 1936, in Franklin County, Indiana. She is the daughter of Urban and Alice (Nee: Gutzwiller) Schmidt. She married Dennis Lee Peetz on May 25, 1957, at St. Louis Catholic Church in Batesville, Indiana. Alice worked at Bohn Aluminum in Greensburg for 33 years and retired from multiple occupations. She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Club and Holy Family Church.

What was most important to Janie throughout her life was her family. Before having her own child, Janie was a consistent presence in the lives of her young nieces and nephews, who fondly remember spending time with her. Anyone who knew Janie also knew that her son, Mike, was the light of her life. Later, when she was blessed with grandchildren, Janie loved nothing more than being able to spend time with them. Her son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren were the center of her world and she was proud of each of them. Janie was beloved by all of her nieces, nephews and their children. Her family Christmas party was legendary and family members have many fond memories of these events.

She is survived by her son Mike (Billie Jo) Peetz of Oldenburg, Indiana; grandchildren Christine and Jaden Peetz; step grandchildren Brady and Bryce Meyer, Brailey (Cecil) Richie, and Larissa Lair, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband Dennis Peetz, parents Urban and Alice Schmidt, brothers Charles and Robert “Bob” Schmidt and sister Mary Rose Doyle.

Visitation was Monday, September 23rd, from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m., at Holy Family Catholic Church in Oldenburg. A Mass of Christian Burial followed at 12 p.m., at the church with Fr. EJ Stein OFM officiating. The burial was at the Holy Family Cemetery in Oldenburg. Memorial donations may be made to Holy Family Church Infamous Few Charity Riders.
