Tom Day

Tom Day, 81, of Napoleon, formerly of Versailles, passed away at 2:45 a.m, Monday, September 30, 2024 at Aspen Place in Greensburg. He was born at Barwick in Breathitt County, Kentucky on February 22, 1943, the son of Kelly and Erasta Stidham Day. He was married to Lorine Holliday on June 20, 1964 and his wife of 60 years survives. Other survivors include one daughter Deanna (Roger) Young of Napoleon; four grandchildren Morgan Young of Knoxville, Tennessee, Kiersten Young of Adrian, Michigan, Blake (Amanda) Sutton of Batesville, and Lindsey (Lee) Mirick of Greensburg; four great-grandchildren; two sisters Pruda Setser and Pauline Hart both of Versailles. He was preceded in death by his daughter Christina Day Sutton, his parents, his brothers Harlan, Joe, and Dale Day, and his sisters Lillie Mae Hisle and Mary Ellen Thieman. Mr. Day was a 1961 graduate of Cross Plains High School. Tom’s working career spanned many years. He spent 35 years as the secretary/treasurer for the AFLCIO at Seagram’s in Lawrenceburg. He also owned and operated Tom’s Reproductions Screen Printing Shop in Versailles and worked as an insurance agent. Tom enjoyed fishing, playing his guitars, spending time with his wife in their Inverness, Florida home, and doing various volunteer carpentry work through his church over the years. He was an accomplished guitarist and sketch artist, having graduated from the Washington School of Art. Tom was a member of the Versailles Church of Christ, the First Christian Church of Inverness, and was awarded the honor of being named a Kentucky Colonel. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 4 at 10:30 a.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Tom’s nephew, Randy Thieman, officiating. Burial will be in the Cliff Hill Cemetery in Versailles. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Memorials may be given to the Bucket Buddies Mission in care of the funeral home.
