Jerry Burton

In life your path will cross with many, few of them will have the character and integrity of Jerry Denver Burton. Jerry passed away Friday evening at his home in Osgood. He was 85 years old, being born on June 30, 1939, in Osgood, IN the son of the late Elmer and Cora (Hart) Burton.

He grew up in Osgood and was proud to say he was in the first graduating class of Jac-Cen-Del High School Class of 1957. He began his work career with the RC Bottling Company in Osgood. The majority of his working years were with Pittsburg Plate Glass and James River.

Jerry was married to Odetta Franklin on June 27, 1959, they were blessed with sons Jerry, Rick and Jeff. They together were able to purchase several homes throughout Osgood and managed numerous rentals over the years. He was proud of his faith and was 50 plus year member of Osgood First Baptist. He had been a member of the Masonic Lodge since 1974 and the Scottish Rites since 1976. He was absolutely a class act to all that knew him.

He always wanted to stay active and busy, he enjoyed gardening, fishing various farm lakes, and was very talented making numerous woodworking projects.

He is survived by sons Jerry (Connie) Burton of Monticello, IN and Rick (Rocio) Burton of Fletcher, Oklahoma, grandchildren; Brian Burton, Christopher Burton, Brice Burton, Scott Banes, Brittany Sulzinger, Kaley Jones, and Stephanie Hostetler, several great grandchildren, and special friend Linda Bruce. He was preceded in death by his wife Odetta, son Jeff Burton, his parents, brother Bob Burton, and sister Geneva Doyle.

Visitation was held on Monday October 28, 2024, from 10 a.m.-12 p.m., at Osgood First Baptist Church. Funeral services were held at 12 p.m., also at the church.
