DAR hosts Celebrate America party: 1776-2026 – America 250 party plans

The Ross’ Run Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution hosted a Stars & Stripes Celebrate America 250 Party on Saturday, Nov. 23rd at the Versailles Baptist Church Family Life Center. The party was held to celebrate the upcoming 250th Birthday of the United States’ independence from England; to commemorate the Bicentennial of the return of General Marquis de Lafayette, and his tour of America; and to recognize the Revolutionary War Patriots that came to Ripley County.
The party was open to the public. Judith Kappes, Regent of Ross’ Run Chapter introduced the speakers as follows:
Roxanna O’Bryant, INDAR State Chairman Franco-American Memorial Committee who presented a program on the life of General Marquis de Lafayette and the contributions he made in helping America win the Revolutionary War.
Jennifer Tousey, INDAR Sewing Guild Chairman, presented programs on Revolutionary Styles and the First Thanksgiving.
Rebecca Speaker, INDAR Southern District Director, presented “The Star-Spangled Banner”.
Sheila Parsons, INDAR State Historian, presented “Roles of Children in the Revolutionary War”.
Ross’ Run Chapter member, Deborah Ketron presented a program of remembrance and honor for Revolutionary War Patriots, that were some of the very early settlers that helped form Ripley County. There are a total of 61 Patriots with ties to Ripley County, 34 of which are buried here. She presented a slide show showing where these men were engaged in battles, skirmishes and other interesting facts.
Nikki Allen, Chapter Treasurer, talked about chapter member Tina Tillman’s Patriot, John Hart, who was a signer of The Declaration of Independence.
The Indiana Children of the American Revolution State President, John A. Green, talked about the C.A.R. Society and the newest C.A.R. chapter, Little Miami, that has been formed at Brookville and introduced Miss Seraphina Rollino of that Chapter.
Tara Bentley, Chapter Registrar, announced an upcoming Genealogy Workshop Sat., Mar. 1st, 1-3 at the Batesville Memorial Public Library.
The audience sang Happy Birthday to America and enjoyed the delicious & beautifully decorated Birthday cake. 1770’s type refreshments were served. Music from the era was played by Chapter member, Crystal Powers, and the audience sang along. A special children’s parade took place with the singing of Yankee Doodle and there were 1770’s era games for the children.
There was a special red, white & blue photo op spot where a lot of photos were taken. Door prizes a plenty were awarded.
Ross’ Run Chapter hopes other communities of Ripley County and organizations will plan and celebrate America’s 250th Birthday as it approaches!
