Break in causes concern for family

Decatur County Dispatch received a call from an address in the 400 block of W. North St., Greensburg, at approximately 3:00 a.m. on July 2. Greensburg Police Department Officers responded and spoke to residents and witnesses in the area. Statements were made that Ethan Pierce, 40, of Metamora and known to the occupants, broke through a window armed with a rifle. Occupants of the residence fled the residence and hid in the area.
Pierce exited the residence back through the same window and left the area. Officers with the Greensburg Police Department and Decatur County Sheriff’s Department worked through the night and into the next day to locate Pierce. Pierce was located and arrested in Shelby County at approximately 8:00 a.m. by officers of the Shelbyville Police Department and the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department.
Pierce had stated to many bystanders that he was with the National Guard. The Osgood Journal spoke with a member of the family who stated, “We will be okay. I didn’t want to ruin his life or career, but having two of my children in my home, I had to protect my babies first.”
Pierce has been charged with the following crimes and is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Ct. 1 – Burglary while armed with a deadly weapon, a level 2 Felony, Ct. 2 – Intimidation while drawing a deadly weapon, a level 5 Felony, Ct. 3 – Criminal reckless while armed with a deadly weapon, a level 6 Felony, and Ct. 4 – Pointing a Firearm, a level 6 Felony.
