Delaware Fire responds to fire that proves fatal

Members of several local fire departments responded to a residence on North County Road 475 East off of State Road 48 around 3:10 a.m. Thursday, December 12. When the Delaware Fire Department first arrived, the home was fully engulfed in flames as seen in the photo. The names of those living at the residence, nor the person who is only described as an elderly female, have not been released per the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s order. Ron Bushorn, fire chief for Delaware, told the Osgood Journal he wants to respect the family and could only release a limited amount of information. Three of the occupants made it out safely. He noted that fire departments worked together. They were assisted at the scene by over 30 firefighters besides Delaware, from Sunman Fire and Rescue, Milan Fire Department, Napoleon Fire Department, Morris Fire Department and Batesville Fire Department. They were also assisted at the scene by two county sheriff’s deputies, two Ripley County EMS vehicles, the Ripley County Coroner, Red Cross and the State Fire Marshal’s Office. The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Indiana State Fire Marshal’s Office.
