Howard H. “Howie” Rohlfing, age 87, passed away on Friday, June 26, 2020 at his home. He was born on September 11, 1932 in Dabney, IN to George W. and Laura Ethel (Gookins) Rohlfing.

He lived his entire life in Napoleon with a brief residence in Indianapolis. He was a proud Napoleon Bearcat from the class of 1950. After graduation he served our country in the United States Army. Upon his completion of service, he entered the workforce. He spent the next 41 years working for Bohn Aluminum. He spent a few years with Alison’s in Indianapolis and four years with Schmidt Bakery in Batesville.  He was employed at Kroger’s Fuel station in Batesville for the last 18 years.

He married Sidney C Finnell on May 12, 1951 and they spent the next 56 years together, until her death in November of 2007. Howard loved his grandchildren’s ballgames, the riverboats, and Las Vegas.  He was an avid IU fan and closely followed the Cincinnati Reds.

Survivors include daughter Barb Tackett of Bedford; sons Tracy (Beth) Rohlfing of Batesville and Nick Rohlfing of Napoleon; grandchildren Seth Tackett, Britt Tackett, Kent Rohlfing, Abby (Rohlfing) Arnold, Tate Rohlfing, Brooke Rohlfing, and Baylee Rohlfing, as well as 4 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Sidney, his parents and infant son; sisters June Russell, Dorothy Abplanap, and Laverne Lepper; daughter-in-law Karen Rohlfing; 4 half siblings; sisters-in-laws Lois Dean and Sherry Woolf; and brother-in-law Joe Dean.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorials be given to the Napoleon Fire Department or the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home.  A private funeral service will be held and burial will be at St John’s Lutheran Cemetery at a later time.  Online condolences can be sent to the family at Nealsfuneralhome.net.
