Guy Lee Craig
Guy “Hoss” Lee Craig, age 80 of Osgood passed away surrounded by his family. Guy was born just over the hill from his current home on August 23, 1940, the son of the late Calvin and Delia (Black) Craig. Guy grew up on the family farm and died on it, the farm has been in the family since 1863.
Guy was a proud Bearcat, graduating in the last class at Napoleon High School, Class of 1960. Upon finishing high school, Guy proudly served in the United States Army, active duty for 3 years and reserves for 2 more years. He received Honorable Discharge in 1965 and began to work for L. E. Meyer Hi Line Construction. 1966 was also a busy year as he would meet and marry Reba Faulkner. After working there for a couple years, he took on his career becoming an employee of South Eastern Indiana REMC. Guy would spend the next 38 years here before retiring in 2004.
Guy was a person that loved to help others in their time in need. He dedicated time and effort to help establish the Delaware Fire Department and the grass root beginnings of Rescue 69. He served in every aspect, he was Fire Chief for several years and President/Captain of Rescue 69. His service didn’t stop there. He was a member of the Ripley County 4H Fair Board and Elrod Water Board. He also served the Ripley County Sheriff Department as a Reserve Deputy for 10 years. He was a member of Indiana Volunteer Fireman Association, Emergency Management Task Force Association, and the Indiana Fire Chief Association.
Guy was a lifetime member of the Delaware United Methodist Church. He traveled in the midwest for a few years working at local rodeo functions. He had a passion for shooting his muzzleloader and was a faithful attendee at the Friendship Shoot. He enjoyed the farm from working horses to making honey, it was his comfort place.
He will be deeply missed by daughter Melissa (Rick Midkiff) Craig of Huron, Ohio; son Jeff (Susanne) Craig of Louisville, Kentucky; brother Ollie (Faye) Craig of Osgood; grandchildren, Christopher (Katie) Craig, Steven (Karena) Snelling, Cory (Sierra) Craig, Cody Craig, and Zachary Snelling. He was preceded in death by wife Reba and his parents.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday September 22 from 4-7 p.m. at Neal’s Funeral Home in Osgood. Funeral services will be on Wednesday September 23 at 10 a.m., military services and burial will be at Mud Pike Cemetery.
