South Ripley boys golf finished out its return to the spring sports scene on Monday, competing in the IHSAA Boys Golf Sectional at the Sunrise Golf Course in Madison.
12 teams competed in a rain-soaked and often delayed sectional. Monday’s event took over 10 hours to complete as a strong weather system pushed through the area and provided lengthy delays throughout much of the afternoon.
By evening time, it was Austin who came away with its second-straight sectional crown, carding a team score of 298 in 18 holes. Madison was runner-up with a 315 while Scottsburg came in third at 340. The top five was rounded out by Jennings County and Charlestown with a 350 and 364 respectively. In order it was Switzerland County, Henryville, Southwestern (Hanover), Shawe Memorial and Rising Sun rounding out the top 10.
New Washington and South Ripley played but did not field a complete team.
For the Raiders, it was Eli Liming coming in as the team’s lowest scorer with a 110. Logan McGee sat at 129 and Reese Swingle scored a 136 for the day. Austin’s Blake Stamper was the individual sectional champion as he finished with an even-par 72. Teammate Landon Smith was runner-up at 73, Madison’s Landon True had a 74 and the duo of Austin’s Barton Garrison and Jennings County’s Jake Grider both shot a 75.
Regional golf tees off today at the Champions Pointe Golf Course. No coverage area team or golfer qualified for the regional round.
