Lady Eagles hit win column

Jac-Cen-Del girls basketball enters the Thanksgiving holiday in much better spirits after the Lady Eagles posted two wins over the weekend.

The two wins on Friday and Saturday allowed Jac-Cen-Del to snap a three-game losing streak. Friday night saw the Lady Eagles defeat host Oldenburg Academy 57-47 before picking up a dominant 60-24 victory at home against Milan.

Friday night’s showdown against Oldenburg saw Jac-Cen-Del use advantages in the second and third quarters to get the victory. After both teams played to a 14-14 tie in the first eight minutes, the Lady Eagles got out in front after an 11-7 second quarter. A 16-10 surge in quarter three allowed for a 41-31 advantage and a dead-even fourth period allowed the 10-point mark to stay intact.

It was one of Jac-Cen-Del’s better shooting nights, totaling 47 percent from the field as three players reached double figures. Julia Meyer led all scorers with 18 points, Olivia Neal had 14 points on 7-of-12 shooting and Reagan Hughes totaled 13 points on 50 percent shooting. Kelsey Borgman added seven points, Savannah Steele scored three points and Sophia Sullivan chipped in two points.

Meyer had a team-high seven rebounds along with four assists and three steals. Borgman added three rebounds and three assists.

Six different players for Oldenburg scored six points or more. Rachel Lamping and Ashley Borgman each scored nine points while Norah Haverkos scored eight points and Kate Weber went for seven points. Ellie Ryan and Sadie Wachsmann each went for six points. Weber added seven assists and four steals with Ryan collecting a team-high eight rebounds.

Milan gave Jac-Cen-Del fits in the first quarter on Saturday but the Lady Eagles broke free in the second quarter with a 24-2 run and never looked back. The game counted towards the Ohio River Valley Conference standings.

The Lady Indians never recovered from the run and Jac-Cen-Del outscored Milan 25-12 in the final two quarters of playing, sending Milan to its fifth-straight loss this season.
It was another night of three double figure scorers for Jac-Cen-Del. Hughes connected on five 3-pointers and finished with 22 points while Neal scored 12 points. Borgman went 5-of-7 from the free throw line and hit for 10 points. Meyer added eight points, Steele scored five points and Sullivan chimed in with three points.

Emma Voss led Milan with 12 points with eight points coming in the first quarter. Kaiya Voss scored four points and Anna Herzog, Tryniti Reed, Kendall Budd and Alex Getz each added two points.

Jac-Cen-Del (2-3, 1-0 ORVC) is at Batesville on Friday night for a Ripley County rivalry matchup while Milan (0-5, 0-2 ORVC) plays Saturday at New Washington.
Oldenburg (2-2) is home against Union County tonight.
