Rinear and Volz compete in All-Star Classic

South Ripley’s Kaiya Rinear and Drew Volz competed in the Indiana All-Star Classic this past weekend at Anderson University. College coaches from across the country were in attendance for this event sanctioned by the NCAA.
South Ripley’s Kaiya Rinear and Drew Volz are no strangers to the local hoops scene and the Raider duo was able to showcase their talents on Saturday as part of the Indiana All-Star Basketball Classic at Anderson University.
The two participated alongside many of the state’s top underclassmen as part of an All-Star series sanctioned by the NCAA.
Rinear, an incoming senior, was featured in a junior all-star game that saw her Team Red fall 72-48 to Team White. The contest saw Team White lead 39-23 at halftime and never look back, pulling away with a 33-25 edge in the second half.
Hammond Central’s Valencia Miller and Floyd Central’s Elise Coleman were named Co-Most Outstanding Players for Team White after scoring 12 points and 10 points respectively. Indiah Hutchinson of Hammond Central added 11 points and it was Emily Parker of Boonville leading in scoring at 18 points.
Rinear scored two points for Team Red. Hammond Central’s Ciyah Thomas was Red’s Most Outstanding Player with 21 points, the only player for the group to score in double figures.
Volz, an incoming junior, was part of a dominant Team White effort in the Futures’ All-Star Game that saw the squad beat up on Team Red by a 104-59 final. Team White got out on a 27-8 run and added 77 more points in the final three quarters.
Five players scored in double figures for Team White and that included Volz who put together an impressive stat line of 19 points, nine rebounds and four assists. He was 7-of-13 shooting and that included a 2-of-3 clip from the three-point line.
Tywaine Fuller of Liberty Christian was named MVP of Team White after scoring 23 points. Karter Kobe of Portage scored 22 points, Floyd Central’s Landon Reed added 17 points and Jaxon McKain of Boonville had 16 points. Kokomo’s DJ Nash was the MVP of Team Red, putting in 18 points.
