500 K’s and counting for Bode

Milan junior Kynadee Bode is surrounded by her teammates on Wednesday night after throwing her 500th career strikeout. Bode enters this week with 504 K’s and is among state leaders in several statistical categories.
It was never a question of if but a question of when. Milan ace Kynadee Bode answered that question last Wednesday night, recording her 500th career strikeout as part of a four-hit shutout inside a 9-0 home win for the Lady Indians over Southwestern (Hanover).
Bode achieved the major milestone in the bottom of the fourth inning, using No. 500 to take care of the side with a third out. She now has 116 strikeouts as part of her junior season and 504 for her career.
The 10th win of the season for Bode included 10 strikeouts against just two walks and offensively her bat once again did damage as she went 3-for-3 with a home run, three RBI and two runs scored. At the plate this year she now has a batting average of .660 with four home runs, 10 doubles, 31 runs and 30 RBI.
Milan led 3-0 on Wednesday through three innings and got some major help with four runs in the bottom of the fourth and another pair of runs in the fifth inning. Southwestern went down quietly in the final two innings to keep the Lady Indians still within striking distance of first place Rising Sun in the Ohio River Valley Conference standings.
Another junior in Milan’s Mallory Eaglin continued her impressive year at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI. Her batting average now sits at .520 with 26 RBI. Caroline McMillan added a single and RBI and the trio of Kayleigh McIntosh, Emma Voss and Jillianne Heard each hit a single and scored a run. Kaylee Peterson scored a run and Brooklyn Bledsoe collected an RBI. Nevaeh Carpenter recorded a stolen base.
Riley Crawford, Jenna Owens, Chloey Leach and Lilly Fox each had a hit for Southwestern (6-3, 0-2 ORVC). Leach was tagged with the pitching loss after five innings, allowing nine runs -six earned- on 11 hits with four strikeouts and two walks.
Milan (13-6, 3-1 ORVC) is home tonight against North Decatur.
