Milan Aquatics avenged a season-opening loss on Saturday and defeated its five other conference foes en route to a second-straight Southeastern Indiana Swimming Association Championship at Greensburg.
A total of seven summer swim programs in Southeastern Indiana took part in the event, all of which combined to feature nearly 350 swimmers from the area.
The repeat championship and fifth in program history for Milan since 1976 saw the Aquatics narrowly swim by host Decatur County. The club from Greensburg had defeated Milan’s crew back at the beginning of June but was edged out by a 1881-1760 final score in a battle of first and second place. Batesville finished third in the meet at 1297.5 points, Hidden Valley swam fourth with 1106 points and Jefferson County rounded out the top five at 726 points. South Dearborn and Switzerland County placed sixth and seventh with 562 points and 313.5 points respectively.
Six different Milan swimmers were multi-event winners, led by Brody Stock and Taylor Stock who racked up four wins apiece. Lindsey Franklin picked up three first place ribbons and that was followed by double-event winners in Kami Laws, Caiden Felver and Seth Thomas. Cooper Mutz, Drew Poole and Elizabeth McKittrick rounded out the victories for the Aquatics with a win apiece.
Batesville results were not provided by time of print.
Milan finishes its summer swim season inside the SEISA with an 11-1 mark which was a combination of exceptional youth talent and the leadership of coaches Steve Stock, Tori Simpkins and Ariel Haessig. Many Aquatic swimmers will remain in the pool this summer as they work towards qualifying for the Southeast Indiana Summer Divisionals meet in Indianapolis.
That meet will be hosted by Center Grove High School beginning on July 25.
