Back-to-back! Milan repeats as sectional champs

It was a full-on celebration Friday night as Milan captured its second-straight Class A Sectional 47 title, upsetting state-ranked North Decatur to advance to this week’s regional championship. The Indians travel to defending state champion Providence on Friday.
North Decatur and Milan inside Class A Sectional 47 action is becoming about as traditional late in the year as Thanksgiving and Christmas. While the Chargers entered ranked and the favorite, the black and gold played spoiler again as the Indians ran wild in a 27-7 blitz of No. 8 North last Friday night to claim a second-straight sectional championship.
It’s the eighth sectional title in program history for the Indians and the third time that Milan has posted back-to-back championships. Of the eight crowns, it’s the fifth under head coach Ryan Langferman.
North Decatur (9-3) had no answer for Milan’s offense and it was evident from the get-go as the Indians ran and passed their way to a big lead. Milan surged out to a 14-0 lead and posted 13 unanswered points in the second half which followed North’s lone touchdown in the second quarter.
The Indian offense totaled 418 yards, 321 of which came on the ground in what was a big-time performance from the backfield. Freshman Beckett Langferman rushed 19 times for 128 yards and older brother Grant Langferman carried six times for 101 yards. Wyatt Marsh and Josh Pettit each rushed for a touchdown and combined for 92 yards.
Marsh was also responsible for two touchdown passes on 5-of-5 passing for 97 yards. He completed four passes to Micah Norman for 84 yards and a score and threw a 13-yard pass to Noah Morgan into the end zone.
Zane Richardson paced the defense with 10 tackles and Grant Langferman added nine tackles. Nick Voss was 3-of-4 on extra points with regards to special teams.
North Decatur came in averaging 33 points of offense but was held to seven points and 224 yards of offense. Corbin Thackery was tops was 16 carries for 105 rushing yards and a touchdown. Charlie Parmer posted eight tackles.
Milan (6-4) is on the road for this week’s Class A Regional Championship. The Indians go to defending state champion Providence who is ranked fourth in the state. Providence (9-2) beat No. 9 North Daviess 42-26 in last week’s sectional championship round.
