Girls basketball across the state is still in full swing with this weekend’s IHSAA Girls Basketball Semi-State on the horizon but accolades are beginning to filter into the local scene.
The Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference released its All-EIAC Girls Basketball Team this past weekend and the list features a pair of Batesville standouts.
Senior Sophie Gesell and sophomore Madelyn Haskamp were both named All-EIAC after helping Batesville to a 16-9 overall record, the third-straight winning season for the program. Gesell, who has signed to play basketball next year at Trine University, was also an All-County selection while Haskamp emerged onto the varsity scene in a big way. Gesell was a double-digit scorer and put up nearly five rebounds per game while Haskamp hovered around the double-double mark at 10 points and nine rebounds per game.
13 were named to the All-EIAC Team with five of those being the entire starting lineup from Class 3A No. 1 Greensburg. Greensburg’s Claire Larrison was named EIAC MVP after averaging 16.2 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. She also added 3.5 assists and 2.3 steals a night. The Lady Pirates are playing in this weekend’s Class 3A South Semi-State.
