Big run lifts Batesville girls over SR
Big runs in the second and fourth quarter lifted Batesville girls basketball to a 44-32 victory over South Ripley on Saturday night in Versailles.
The loss put South Ripley under the .500 mark for the season through seven games while Batesville has now won four of its first six games on the year. Batesville’s win streak against the Lady Raiders is now at three games.
South Ripley led 14-6 as part of a quick start in the first quarter but Batesville responded back after the early job and controlled the rest of the way. The Lady Bulldogs got out in front by four points at halftime with a 13-1 run in the second quarter and outscored the Lady Raiders 25-17 in the second half which was highlighted by a 16-9 run in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.
Eight different players hit the score column for Batesville, led by Alyson Peters with 12 points. Claire Saner and Maddie Haskamp each had eight points, Sophie Gesell scored six points and Kaylin Kathmann added five points. Lydia Haskamp and Sydney Campbell each finished with two points and Marlee Obermeyer chipped in a lone free throw.
Reese Obendorf led all scorers with 13 points and South Ripley’s duo of Lydia Cornett and Claire Samples scored five points apiece. Lexi Franklin had four points, Morgan Brightwell added three points and Suzie Gunter rounded out Lady Raider scoring with two points.
Batesville (4-2) is at Class A ranked Jac-Cen-Del on Friday night and then entertains Connersville on Saturday afternoon. South Ripley (3-4) plays next Tuesday at home against North Decatur.
