Bode’s no-hitter stymies OA
Milan sophomore Kynadee Bode returned to local softball competition on Tuesday night and her step inside the pitching circle was a dominant one as Bode twirled a no-hitter en route to a dominant 17-0 victory for the Lady Indians over host Oldenburg Academy.
The Lady Indians are just a couple days removed from returning home after a long stand in Tennessee as part of a season-opening tournament.
Bode is no stranger to no-hit success and the Lady Indian hurler picked right back up where she left off as part of a stellar freshman campaign. Going a complete five innings, Bode’s night saw 15 batters faced, striking out 13 of those batters against no walks. Her only blemish of the evening was hitting a lone Oldenburg batter, preventing a perfect game.
Milan’s offense very easily backed up its ace as the black and gold racked up 17 runs on 12 hits and also took advantage of eight errors made by the Lady Twister defense. The Lady Indians led 2-0 after one inning before tacking on 13 runs in the second frame and then adding on their final two runs in the bottom of the third. Oldenburg was unable to make up any kind of difference in the matchup and the game ended after five complete innings with the 10-run mercy rule in effect.
Bode, Mallory Eaglin, Emma Voss, Nevaeh Carpenter and Adelynn Sheets each had two hits for Milan with Bode and Carpenter driving in four runs and three runs respectively. Voss scored three runs and had an RBI while Eaglin recorded two RBI and Sheets scored twice. Alexis Marshall, a freshman, came into the game and tied Voss with three runs of her own.
Chloe Hunter and Brooklyn Bledsoe concluded the Lady Indian offense with a single apiece. Hunter drove in a run and Bledsoe scored two runs.
Oldenburg individual statistics were not received by time of print. The Lady Twisters (0-1) are at South Decatur this evening while Milan (2-6) looks forward to a home matchup on Saturday against Ryle (Ky.).
