Bulldogs host Raver Relays
A long-time coach, educator and friend to Southeastern Indiana watched from above to see his memory honored in the most athletic of fashion as Batesville High School hosted the inaugural Raver Relays this past Saturday.
The late Ron Raver, who passed away in 2022, was a Hall of Fame track and field coach at Batesville while also serving later as a supporter and broadcaster of high school student-athletes. Saturday’s event was the first of hopefully many dedicated to his contributions to Southeastern Indiana in a variety of roles.
Batesville’s boys track and field squad used the 1600 relay in the end to make for a team victory on Saturday with 92 points. Jennings County finished runner-up at 87.5 while Franklin County placed third with 75 points. Decatur Central (69), Milan and Rushville (29 apiece) and Indianapolis Tindley (5) rounded out the standings.
On the girls side it was Franklin County winning with 107 points and Batesville was second place with 95 points. Other girls teams included Jennings County (67.5), Rushville (61), Decatur Central (48), Milan (6) and Tindley (1).
Ayden Eckstein gave Batesville a win in the boys high jump at six feet and six inches, Brock Mahon won the discus with a throw of 140 feet and seven inches and Hudson Kohlman went up 12 feet and six inches to win the pole vault. Other Batesville winners were all in relay events. Kaylie Raver, Kaylynn Bedel, Paige Allgeieir and Megan Allgeier won the 3200 relay in 10:25.06 and Bedel, Raver, Megan Allgeier and Lexiyne Harris took first in the distance medley at 13:55.15.
Katie Lipps, Ella Moster, Sam Adam and Paige Allgeier earned top honors in the sprint medley in 4:46.12 and Raver, Bayleigh Demaree, Megan Allgeier and Addison Luers won the 1600 relay in a time of 4:19.12. Gage Pohlman, Cannon Clark, Deev Ranka and Blake Hornbeger gave the Bulldog boys a victory in the 1600 relay at 3:31.82.
The following were second and third place finishers for Batesville: Second Place – Ayden Eckstein, long jump; Brock Mahon, shot put; Paige Allgeier, high jump; Ella King, shot put and discus; Savannah Pohlman, Addison Luers, Ella Moster and Katie Lipps, 400 relay. Third Place – Cole Rudolf, 110 hurdles; Savannah Pohlman, long jump; Ella Moster, 100 hurdles; Isaac Trossman, Griffin Koester, Cash Myers and Cannon Clark, 3200 relay.
Milan saw Gabe Riehle, Ethan Dehamer, Lucas Cooney and Ben Riehle win the 3200 relay 8:37.55. Cooney, Dehamer, Gabe Riehle and Ayden Potts took first place in the distance medley at 11:21.44. It was the only top three finishes for the Indians who brought shortened rosters to the event.
