Bulldogs run to Top 10 finishes

Batesville cross country ran with the big dogs to open the 2020 campaign and the Bulldogs kept up with the pack at the Terre Haute South Valley Kick Off Invitational on Saturday.
The girls portion of the meet saw Batesville run to an impressive sixth place finish among 22 teams, scoring 212 points in the meet. Franklin won the invitational with 70 points. The top five was rounded out by Westfield 92, New Palestine 124, Northview 136 and Jasper 152.
Maria Lopez paced the Lady Bulldogs, finishing in the top 20 with a 19th place finish in a time of 21:11. Ava Haston finished in the top 50, finishing 42nd in 21:54. Madison Rahschulte and Sophie Myers finished 52nd and 54th respectively in times of 22:19 and 22:21. Rounding out the top seven for Batesville were Trysta Vierling who finished in 22:53, Megan Allgeier in 23:31 and Carley Pride at 25:30.
The boys portion of the meet saw Batesville score 300 points and finish ninth out of 28 teams. Carmel dominated with 49 points en route to winning the invitational. The top five was rounded out by Brebeuf Jesuit 64, Northview 134, Westfield 138 and Bloomington North 140.
Benjamin Moster and Ean Loichinger led the Bulldogs and just missed out finishing in the top 20. Moster placed 23rd in 17:13 and Loichinger was 27th at 17:15. Adam Hollowell ran in a time of 17:36 and finished 41st. Rounding out the top seven for Batesville were: Eli Loichinger, 18:51; Nathan Villani, 19:38; Will Nuhring, 19:40 and Daren Smith, 19:51.
¨We left at 5:30 a.m. to go to Terre Haute,” Batesville head coach Lisa Gausman said. ¨It was hot and humid out and it was no little race but we competed very well.¨
Batesville hosts Greensburg, North Decatur and South Decatur on Thursday. The meet will also be senior night for the Bulldogs.
