Bulldogs sweep county track meet

Batesville laid claim to being the top contender heading into last Thursday night’s Ripley County Track and Field Championship and the Bulldogs did not disappoint, sweeping both the boys and girls titles .
The Bulldogs combined for 24 event wins on the night. Eight county event records were broken on Thursday night, six by Batesville and two by Milan.
Batesville’s girls dominated with 14 wins and a total of 125.5 points. South Ripley finished second with 61 points, Milan was third with 35 points and Jac-Cen-Del scored 9.5 points for fourth place. South Ripley’s Alexa Yeomans was named Ripley County Most Valuable Performer after earning first place ribbons in both hurdle events. She won the 100 hurdles in 15.84 seconds and took first in the 300 hurdles at 51.07 seconds.
The Lady Bulldogs watched Ella King set a new county shot put record after winning with a throw of 37 feet and eight inches. Kaylie Raver, Bayleigh Demaree, Kaylynn Bedel and Megan Allgeier won the 3200 relay in a county record time of 10:06.73. Other first place finishers for Batesville included the following: Katie Lipps, 100 dash, 13.16; Lipps, 200 dash, 28.30; Addison Luers, 400 dash, 1:02.75; Raver, 800 run, 2:30.90; M. As expected on the boys side it was Batesville fending off Milan as the Bulldogs won with 119 points and the Indians finished second at 81.5 points. South Ripley scored 18 points for third place and Jac-Cen-Del was an extremely close fourth with 17.5 points.
Batesville’s Brock Mahon was named the County MVP after winning three individual events and one relay event. He won the 100 dash in 11.68 seconds then took first in the shot put at 44 feet and 10 inches and the discus with a throw of 126 feet and seven inches. He joined up with Will Westerfeld, Noah Davis and Christian Stenger to cross the finish line first in the 400 relay in a time of 46 seconds.
Gage Pohlman won two events and set new county records in both after winning the 110 hurdles in 15.97 seconds and the 300 hurdles in 41.69 seconds. Ayden Eckstein set records in the high jump and long jump, both resulting in wins. Eckstein sat at six feet and eight inches for a new record in the high jump and a record mark of 20 feet and 3.75 inches in the long jump.
Other Bulldog wins included Cannon Clark in the 800 run at 2:00.24 and Hudson Kohlman in the pole vault at seven feet.
Milan’s boys won six events and broke two relay records. Gabe Riehle, Ethan Dehamer, Ayden Potts and Ben Riehle won the 1600 relay in a record time of 3:27.77 and teamed up again to shatter the 3200 relay mark in 8:13. In individual events, Ben Riehle won the 200 dash in 23.32 seconds and took first in the 400 dash at 50.46 seconds. Ayden Potts was a winner in the 1600 run in 4:40.91 and Lucas Cooney crossed first in the 3200 run at 10:28.70.
