Batesville continued its reign as the top team in the county while Milan’s Jackson Voss staked his claim as the county’s top golfer as part of the Ripley County Boys Golf Championship on Tuesday afternoon at North Branch Golf Course in Greensburg.
The match stayed on schedule despite frequent rain showers in the morning and early afternoon. Batesville’s repeat championship came with ease as the Bulldogs shot a low score of 180 which was 36 strokes ahead of runner-up Jac-Cen-Del at 216. Milan was in third place with a 223 while South Ripley competed but did not have enough golfers to qualify for a team score.
Milan’s Jackson Voss used a strong scorecard early and a couple key holes late to hold on as the individual county champion, winning by a single stroke with a nine-hole seven-over par 43. The rest of the All-County team was taken up by Batesville golfers.
Jackson Wanstrath finished as individual runner-up and played solid late to earn a score of 43 for the day. Leo Moody was right behind with a 44 while Jackson Day and Henry Koehne rounded out All-County selections by shooting a 46 apiece. In a non-scoring round for the Bulldogs, Alec Bunselmeier carded a 45 and Kyle Williamson finished with a 49.
Jac-Cen-Del’s top golfer was Sam Schwering with a 48 and Derek Borgman came in with a 53. Drew Caccamo’s 54 and Austin Rohls’ 61 rounded out scoring and Grant Rinear shot a 65 in a non-scoring round. For Milan, the trio of Cole Knecht, Trey Mattl and Nate Voss all shot a 60 to pair alongside Jackson Voss’s 43. Jacob Helton’s 64 came inside non-scoring action.
South Ripley had three golfers in action, falling one short of fielding a complete team. Eli Liming led the Raiders with a 61 while Logan McGee and Reese Swingle shot a 70 and 71 respectively.
Batesville competed in a four-way match on Wednesday night in Brookville against Franklin County, Oldenburg Academy and Connersville. Milan is in action on May 3 at East Central while South Ripley competes that same day at Belterra Casino against Switzerland County and Southwestern (Hanover). Jac-Cen-Del is slated to compete next Monday at Sunrise Golf Course in Madison.
