Calling all women veterans in Ripley County

Ripley County Veteran’s Service Officer Ken Hylton hands a pamphlet to Marine Cpl. Tina Wallace. The pamphlet is full of information that is important to women who have served or are serving in the military. Cpl. Wallace served four years from 1994-1998. She encourages women veterans to come to the Versailles American Legion on Thursday evenings where they meet at 6:30 p.m.
Women veterans are one of the fastest growing subgroups of Veterans. However, women frequently report that they feel invisible as Veterans, both within and outside the VA. That is why the Ripley County Veteran’s Service Officer, Ken Hylton is interested in creating and compiling a list of women veterans in the Ripley County area.
Hylton is asking that all former military women who served in the Armed Services make contact with his office in order to create that list. The main purpose of this interest, is to make sure they have the communication resources and to know what benefits may be available to them and their families. As time goes on, Ken would like to set up a local support group with those who are interested in that respect as well. Ken has been in contact with Laura McKee, Women’s Program Coordinator, Indiana Department of Veteran’s Affairs, she would also like to be involved in part of the process and possibly have the opportunity to meet with them women veterans.
In order to contact Ken at his office with information, please call 812-689-7165, or by email khylton@ripleycounty.com The office is located in the Ripley County Annex at 102 W. 1st North St. in Versailles
