Driver taken to jail after crash

On Thursday, May 1 at 3:19 pm, Versailles Fire Department responded to vehicle accident that had caught on fire on US 50 east of the Versailles State Park. The vehicle was heading westbound on US 50 and struck a guard rail. The driver was Ralph Childers Jr., age 51 of Holton with his wife, Kristy as passenger. The vehicle caught fire. Traffic was stopped both ways for clean-up of the accident. Fortunately, there were no injuries. The VFD was on the scene with Ripley County EMS, Indiana State Police, Ripley County Sheriff’s Office, and Indiana Conservation Officer.
Working the scene was Master Trooper Kyle Stovall, who witnessed the accident driving eastbound on US 50. Stovall told the Osgood Journal that Childers had an outstanding warrant out of Dearborn County. Childers was arrested at the scene and transported to Dearborn County jail.
