Eagles topple Toppers
Jac-Cen-Del boys basketball once again watched its offense flourish and the defense did quite a number in the final three quarters as the Eagles bashed Shawe Memorial 76-40 at home on Friday night in an Ohio River Valley Conference game.
The Eagles have won back-to-back games for the first time this season, both of which saw opponents held to under 50 points.
Shawe (2-4, 0-2 ORVC) hung around early but Jac-Cen-Del broke free of a slim two-point lead with a 19-6 run in the second quarter and a 27-11 blitz to open the second half. The Eagles finished the night with 12 points in the fourth frame to only add to a blowout lead.
While the defense only continued to improve this season, Jac-Cen-Del’s offense once again put up impressive numbers, shooting 63 percent overall from the field and 55 percent from the three-point line. That included a 10-of-10 performance from Darian Grieshop who led all scorers and posted a double-double of 24 points and 11 rebounds. He was three assists shy of a triple-double and also picked up four steals.
Will Meyer added 12 points and seven rebounds. Senior Lane Simon totaled a stat line of eight points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals and Blake Wagner contributed nine points.
Loren Stiver led the Hilltoppers with 18 points. Leo Garcia-Nonato added nine points.
Jac-Cen-Del (2-3, 2-0 ORVC) visits Class 2A No. 22 Southwestern (Hanover) on Friday night in an ORVC clash.
