End of Watch for Deputy Steve Sullivan

Steve “Sully” Sullivan, 65, of Osgood, passed away at 1:30 a.m. Sunday, April 28, 2024 at his home.
Sullivan was best known in the area as an officer with the Ripley County Sheriff’s Department. He first began his career as a Reserve Officer for the Town of Osgood and as a Deputy Reserve Officer for the Sheriff’s Department in 1998. He then became a full-time merited deputy and was currently working part-time as Ripley County Courthouse Security. He was promoted to Corporal with the Sheriff’s Department in 2014.
Sullivan was a member of the Indiana Sheriff’s Association and the Ripley County FOP. In 2012, he was given the Indiana Sheriff’s Association Lifesaving Award as the result of rescuing an individual from a car fire.
He was known for helping anyone in any way he could, whether it be in uniform or not.
He was born in Otterbein, Indiana on November 24, 1958, the son of Dennis and Alene Anderson Sullivan.
He married Karen Kunz on December 1, 1979 and she survives. Other survivors include two sons Travis (Kimberly) Sullivan of Osgood, and Jerid (Allyson) Sullivan of Greensburg; two grandsons Kaleb and his brother David Sullivan.
Sullivan was a 1977 graduate of Benton Central High School. His working career spanned many years. He worked as an assistant manager for the Goodyear Tire Store in Osgood and for 20 years as a custodian for the Jac-Cen-Del Schools.
Visitation will be Wednesday, May 1 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at the Stratton-Karstetter Funeral Home, Versailles on Thursday, May 2 at 11 a.m. with Randy Thieman officiating. Burial will be in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Napoleon. Memorials may be given to the St. John Cemetery or Ripley County EMS in care of the funeral home.
