Ennis and Morgan win SIRC opener

Natives from Versailles and Lawrenceburg opened as winners this past Saturday as Ethan Ennis and Hannah Morgan took top honors at the Lions Pride 5K in Rushville.
Lions Pride serves as the first stop on the 2025 Southeastern Indiana Racing Circuit Series. It was one of six series races that will be held within the next two months and racers must participate in five of the six to qualify for the series standings.
Ennis, of Versailles, was the overall race winner and top male runner with a time of 17:57 and Morgan, of Lawrenceburg, was the top female runner after finishing 12th overall in 21:30. Both racers did not compete in last year’s series.
Former Milan standout and current IU-Kokomo runner Ayden Potts ran second overall in 18:24 and Jordan Hoeing of Rushville ran third in 18:25. The top five was rounded out by Quinton Walker of Greensburg in fourth at 18:28 and Tegan Burk of Aurora in fifth at 19:00. Ethan DeHamer of Milan was the only other coverage area participant to finish in the Top 10. He ran eighth in a time of 20:16.
94 total runners took part in the 5K. No one from the coverage area competed in the walk portion of the 5K. That was won by Liberty’s Darron Steele. Steele, who won the 5K walk in Versailles two weekends ago, took the Lions Pride event in a time of 33:17.
The second leg of the SIRC will be on July 12 as St. Leon will host the Trojan Trot 5K. This upcoming weekend sees three nearby venues hosting Fourth of July weekend races. Greendale’s Fourth of July 5K and Batesville’s Four on the Fourth will both be on Friday at 8 a.m. and Madison’s annual Firecracker 10K will be on Saturday at 8 a.m.
