A special night for Milan senior Jacob Helton provided plenty of celebration but Milan golf added to the cause and a three-way meet win provided even more fireworks on Tuesday night at the Belterra Golf Resort.
Milan faced off against host Switzerland County and Jac-Cen-Del on Tuesday, a battle between three of the top teams in the Ohio River Valley Conference.
The Indians won the meet with a nine-hole team score of 168 while Switzerland County finished runner-up at 180. Jac-Cen-Del was six strokes behind with a 186 for third place. Milan’s Micah Norman finished atop the individual leaderboard and put together a four-over par 39 for medalist honors.
He may not have won among individuals but no golfer had a better shot on Tuesday night than Helton. One swing was all it took on Hole 2 and Helton’s ball found its way to the green and dropped into the cup to provide him his first hole-in-one of his career. He would finish on the scorecard with a 45 to round out the Milan scoring round but it’s safe to say the scorecard does not compare to the cloud nine that he will be feeling for days to come.
A 40 from Jackson Voss and 44 carded by Ethan Clark were also part of Milan’s scoring round. In a non-scoring round for the Indians, Ben Knowlton shot a 48.
Caden Comer was Jac-Cen-Del’s top golfer with a 43, Beckham Comer scored a 45 and the trio of Case Comer, Warren Boor and Darrian Grieshop each fired a 49.
