Milan senior tailback Austin Green could not be stopped on the ground, the run game totaled 206 yards and the Indians served notice on Friday night, drilling host West Washington 37-6 in the Class A Sectional 47 Semifinals.
The Class A No. 14 Indians have now won back-to-back games and three of their last four. Milan is set for its second-straight sectional championship game appearance.
It was all Milan from the get-go and a 13-0 lead quickly blossomed to 30-0 at halftime after 17 unanswered points in the second quarter. West Washington (4-7) scored its only touchdown in the third frame but that alongside an extra point was the only offense the Senators could muster as the Indians answered with a touchdown of their own en route to a dominant victory.
Those 206 rushing yards by the Indians made up the majority of the 304 yards of total offense. Green continued his late season hot streak, rushing for 156 yards and three touchdowns on 26 carries and John McKeown added 43 yards on seven carries. Green also managed a touchdown through the air on a catch for 13 yards. That was thrown by Wyatt Marsh who was 8-of-13 passing for 98 yards.
Green’s top target was Dylan Offill who had three catches for 55 yards. Dylan Hon added seven points, going 4-of-5 on extra points and kicking a 30-yard field goal.
Junior Micah Norman paced the defensive efforts, picking up two interceptions with one of those going back for a touchdown. McKeown had a fumble recovery and Brady Alcorn posted a team-high two pass deflections. Offill, McKeown and Zane Richardson each had one deflection.
Cameron Gilb and Carson Betz put together a team-high six tackles apiece. Six total tackles by the Indians went for a loss of yards.
Milan (7-4) hosts Class A No. 4 North Decatur (10-1) this Friday night in the championship game. The Chargers, who blanked Eastern Greene 35-0 last week, have eliminated the Indians from the sectional the last five years.
