Milan quarterback Wyatt Marsh delivered three touchdowns on the ground and one in the air as part of a dominant 41-18 win for the Indians over Rushville.
Rushville owned a 6-0 lead over Class A No. 7 Milan in last Friday night’s high school football opener after one quarter but once the rust and jitters wore off in the opening 12 minutes it was all Milan and the Indians cruised to a 41-18 victory over the Lions.
It was Milan’s third-straight week one win over Rushville and the fourth against the Lions in the last five years.
How did the black and gold respond to being down 6-0? With 27 unanswered points in the second quarter which allowed for a large lead. Milan followed it up with a 14-6 edge in the third quarter to go up 41-12 before allowing a lone Rushville touchdown in the fourth frame.
Milan put up 337 yards of total offense, much of which was generated by senior quarterback Wyatt Marsh. Marsh was 10-of-15 passing for 196 yards and a touchdown, a strike to wide receiver Micah Norman who had two catches for 45 yards and a score. Caydin Davidson was the top target with three catches for 75 yards and Grant Langferman had two catches for 70 yards.
Marsh also ran for three touchdowns after sharing team-high ground game honors with freshman Beckett Langferman. Both recorded 58 rushing yards on a combined 21 carries. Sophomore Kamden Miller also ran in for a touchdown.
JJ Mutz paced the defense with 12 tackles and Kolton Harris recorded 10 tackles. Davidson picked off a pass for an interception and Noah Morgan recovered a fumble and ran 25 yards for a touchdown. Junior Nick Voss was a perfect 5-of-5 on extra point attempts.
Milan (1-0) is at Batesville for the Ripley County Bell Game on Friday night. The Indians are looking to regain possession of the bell after losing it during the 2020 season.
