JCD Ambassadors making a difference

Jac-Cen-Del Elementary’s Student Ambassador Program is in full swing! This is a new program at JCDE this year. The program was researched and modeled after schools in other parts of the state that are of similar size and demographics as JCDE. The goal of the program is to build confidence and inspire students to be the best version of themselves they can be.
Within the program, there is a detailed process for a student to earn the title of “Student Ambassador”. At the end of the 2024/2025 school year, teachers and staff received an application for any student in 4th and 5th grade (which would make them 5th and 6th graders for the year they would be serving), and this application was given to students that teachers and staff felt would demonstrate the qualities that the school was looking for to represent our school. Some of these qualifications included responsibility, kindness, trustworthiness, good behavior, determination, etc. Once the applications were sent home with the selected students, both the student and their parents had sections to complete. The parental involvement is important so that parents also realize there will be additional expectations that the student will be required to meet throughout the school year. Once the applications were returned, the committee of staff at JCD met to read through the applications. The committee then chose six students to represent JCDE as Student Ambassadors for the 2025-2026 school year. The students that were chosen were notified the last week of the school year, and they were all so excited. Each Ambassador was awarded a “Student Ambassador” t-shirt to wear proudly.
During this first half of the school year, the Student Ambassadors have gotten to help in the following ways: assist preschool and kindergarten students learn the ropes of the routine of school; aid new students as they start their journey at JCD, present to classes in the building on what we call, “Wellness Topics”, etc.
The “Wellness Topics” presentations have been a favorite. This program is where each Ambassador chooses a topic and a month to present. They are then required to make a poster and activity/game on their topic. They then go around the building and present on their topics. This is beneficial in so many ways. It not only is teaching the younger students valuable life lessons and life skills, but it is a confidence builder for the Ambassadors. Additionally, it is a great chance to work on public speaking, etc. This school year’s presentations, to date, have been on the topics of “Healthy Snacks” and “Respect”. December’s topic is the “Importance of Getting Enough Sleep”.
“I truly hope the Student Ambassadors see the impact that they are making on the students here at JCDE,” said Jessilyn Tunny, Student and Family Support Specialist. Moreover, my hope is that they continue to be positive role models and inspire the students around them as they grow personally,” concluded Tunny.
