While the American Legion junior shooting team has been busy with competition, they’ve also continued to learn away from the action. Shooters recently learned about proper gun safety and marksmanship courtesy of the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association.
Versailles American Legion Post #173 boasted an individual state champion once again while its entire junior shooting team took second this past weekend at the American Legion Junior Shooting State Championship.
Post #173 shot a team score of 981-14 for its second place finish. Jasper, a yearly and friendly rival to Versailles, won the state title with a 1003-17.
For the second time this season, Charlotte Queen led the Versailles crew and hoisted up individual state championship honors after totaling a 260-3. That score put her just in front of another Post #173 teammate in Sam Queen who was runner-up at 257-5. Charlotte Queen finished first in the standing shoot at 84-0 while Sam Queen was third in the kneeling shoot at 88-2.
Chloe Grable, Quinn Faust and Ayden Boyce also competed for Post #173. The junior shooting team is now heading down the home stretch of its 2025-2026 season.
