A Batesville freshman broke a school record and in the process found her way into the biggest event of the spring last Tuesday night as Ella King is bound for the IHSAA Girls Track and Field State Finals in Bloomington.
King received an at-large bid, joining up with the Batesville 3200 relay team and South Ripley’s Alexa Yeomans as state qualifiers this past week.
The IHSAA Girls Track and Field Regional at Shelbyville gave automatic bids to the top three finishers in each event but King made good on breaking the state standard distance in the shot put to earn an at-large bid to the next round. King’s throw of 39 feet and 5.75 inches surpassed that mark, placing her fourth in the regional and in doing so, broke her own school record. She was less than two feet off of third place which was had by Whiteland’s Car VonDielingen at 41 feet.
King will join up with her coverage area peers on May 31 at the state finals hosted by the Robert C. Haugh Track and Field Complex in Bloomington.
