Lady Bulldogs win New Albany Invite
The unbeaten streak continues early in the season for Batesville girls golf as the No. 10 Lady Bulldogs topped two other state ranked teams en route to the New Albany Invitational title on Saturday afternoon.
It was the third-straight invitational championship for Batesville but the first that featured some of the top talent in Southern Indiana. Also featured on Saturday at the Valley View Golf Club in Floyds Knobs was No. 4 Floyd Central and No. 18 New Albany.
Batesville won with an 18-hole team score of 326 and New Albany’s No. 1 team followed with a 340. Floyd Centrals’ top-tier group finished third at 373, Madison was fourth at 385 and East Central rounded out the top five with a 401. Columbus East sat sixth at 419, New Albany and Floyd Central’s second teams were seventh and eighth respectively at 439 and 443 and that was followed by a 460 from Jennings County and 467 from Scottsburg. Borden and Jeffersonville competed but did not qualify for a team score.
Not only did Batesville get the team win but for a second-straight contest boasted the top individual as junior Ava South picked up medalist honors for the first time this season. South fired a three-over par 74 to take the victory and teammate Addyson Weiler finished second overall with a 77. Alexis Gallagher’s 86 and Zoey Ahern’s 89 rounded out scoring for the Lady Bulldogs and Grace Saner shot a 95 as part of a non-scoring 95.
Batesville was back in action on Monday afternoon, competing against Columbus East in a dual match at Otter Creek Golf Course.
