Lady Bulldogs win Raver Relays

Batesville girls track and field captured the 2nd Annual Raver Relays on Saturday. The Lady Bulldogs scored 96 points and won four individual events
A second annual event honoring the life and legacy of an educator and coach saw the late Ron Raver’s favorite school a winner as the Lady Bulldogs of Batesville captured the Raver Relays on Saturday.
Batesville High School hosted the event which was created in 2024 to raise money for the Raver Scholarship Fund and the Bulldog track and field teams.
The Lady Bulldogs won with 96 points which was enough to hold off Jennings County and its 82 points. Franklin County was third at 78.5 points, Decatur Central placed fourth at 50.5 points and Rushville rounded out the top five with 38 points. Milan finished sixth after scoring 19 points.
Decatur Central won the boys side of the event with 100 points and Batesville finished second at 87 points. Jennings County (63), Franklin County (62) and Rushville (40) rounded out the top five while the field was finished out by Milan and Indianapolis Tindley with 17 points and two points respectively.
Four first place finishes highlighted the day for Batesville’s girls and two of those finishes saw new meet records set. Lexiyne Harris, Bayleigh Demaree, Abby Miller and Jayla Bedel won the 4000 distance medley relay in a record time of 13:44.98 and Ella King’s record throw of 40 feet and 10.5 inches allowed her a win in the shot put. Miller, Demaree, Maggie Jelenik and Maycee Holtkamp won the 1600 relay in 4:23.04 and the 3200 relay team of Bedel, Paige Allgeier, Caitlin Raver and Holtkamp won in 10:37.44.
Other top three finishes for the Lady Bulldogs included: Second Place – Jelenik, 100 hurdles, 17.77 seconds; Jersey Trenkamp, Miller, Katie Lipps and Addison Luers, 800 relay, 1:50.79; Trenkamp, Jade Martin, Allgeier and Raver, 1600 sprint medley relay, 4:50.28; Savannah Pohlman, long jump, 15’9. Third Place – Pohlman, Jelenik, Luers and Lipps, 400 relay, 53.03 seconds; Nora Wiedeman, long jump, 14’7.
Sarah Bedel, Brycin Hoegeman, Joelene Dirkising and Jeff Gerstbauer combined to win the co-ed throwers relay in a time of 56.46 and that was followed by more Batesville winners, this time on the boys side. That included double-event winner Ayden Eckstein who won the high jump at six feet and two inches and the long jump at 20 feet and 9.5 inches. Brock Mahon won the discus and set a meet record of 147 feet and three inches and the 1600 relay squad of Christian Stenger, Ethan Lacey, Blake Hornberger and James Rowland won in 3:33.99
Second and third place finishes for the Batesville boys were: Second Place – Rowland, Mahon, Noah Davis and Stenger, 800 relay, 1:33.43; Isaac Trossman, Cash Myers, Levi Essick and Griffin Koester, 3200 relay, 8:54.55. Third Place – Rowland, Stenger, Davis and Mahon, 400 relay, 44.97 seconds; Max Walter, Eric Hertel, Davis and Ethan Rahschulte, 1600 sprint medley relay, 4:05.84; Lacey, long jump, 19’9.5; Gerstbauer, shot put, 39’1.
Milan’s Gabe Riehle was tops for the boys with a second place spot in the long jump at 20 feet and 0.5 inches. Two relay teams for the Lady Indians finished third. Elly Potts, Cristina Martinez, Hannah Cooney and Kayla Roell ran the 3200 relay in 12:05.41 and Cooney, Aryanna Poulard, Martinez and Potts went 16:14.69 in the 4000 distance medley relay.
Batesville is set to compete at South Dearborn today while Milan is scheduled to be in Vevay for a meet hosted by Switzerland County.
