Milan softball scored 11 runs in the top of the first inning and never looked back, pounding Switzerland County 12-2 in the first Ohio River Valley Conference game of the season for the Lady Indians.
The Lady Indians have now won four games in a row. Overall, it is the fifth game this season that Milan has scored double-digit runs.
The 11-0 cushion provided plenty of excitement and Milan added its final run in the top of the second. Switzerland County put the bat on the ball but was unable to create a comeback attempt, plating just its two runs in the bottom of the fourth. The game ended on the 10-run mercy rule after five frames.
Emma Voss’s day highlighted the Milan offense and the sophomore went 3-for-4 with a home run, double, four RBI and two runs. Triniti Reed and Kynadee Bode each went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a combined three runs scored. Chole Hunter drove in two runs on two singles, Natalee Deatley went 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI and Brooklyn Bledsoe, Adelynn Sheets and Mallory Eaglin had a base hit apiece.
Bode pitched her way to a win in a complete game effort. The sophomore allowed two earned runs on four hits in five innings with three strikeouts and a walk.
Milan (8-7, 1-0 ORVC) was at Jac-Cen-Del for a conference matchup on Monday and visits ORVC foe Southwestern (Hanover) on Wednesday night.
