Lady Indians open at 4-4

Milan softball ended its spring break week with eight games to start the new season. The Lady Indians open their local slate today against Oldenburg Academy.
Milan softball won just one game a year ago down in Tennessee but a return trip in 2025 saw much more success as the Lady Indians wrapped up their season-opening spring break trip with a 4-4 record.
The Lady Indians won just one game down south in 2024. Softball teams from across the midwest and southern parts of the country participated in the three-day event.
A pair of games on Thursday saw Milan defeat Mountain Home (Ark.) 10-5 before falling 8-3 to McNairy Central (Tenn.). That was followed by a 1-2 record on Friday and a 2-1 mark in a trio of games on Saturday. Wins during both stretches included a 15-6 decision over Saint Viator (Ill.), 9-8 over Fairview (Tenn.) and a 7-6 finale victory against Sycamore (Tenn.).
The Lady Indians fell 14-4 to Lauderdale County (Ala.) and 11-10 to Briarcrest Christian (Tenn.) on Friday. They lost 5-2 on Saturday against McEwen (Tenn.).
Nine different players recorded hits at the plate for the black and gold over the three-day stretch. Mallory Eaglin belted two home runs as part of a team-high 15 hits. That included three doubles and 19 RBI. Junior classmates Kynadee Bode and Emma Voss each had 11 hits and a home run. Bode posted 17 runs, nine RBI and four doubles while Voss sat at 14 runs, three doubles and two RBI. Freshman Jillian Herd had eight hits and eight RBI and Nevaeh Carpenter tallied 13 runs, seven hits and five RBI.
Others with hits during the eight games for Milan included Kayleigh McIntosh, Brooklyn Smith, Brooklyn Bledsoe and Katelin Murray. On the bases it was Voss with a team-high eight stolen bases while Carpenter and Bode each had six stolen bases.
Most of the pitching duties went to Bode during the eight games as she threw seven matchups and posted a 4-3 record with a 6.77 earned run average. In 31 innings thrown, she allowed 42 runs -30 earned- on 45 hits with 34 strikeouts and 11 walks. McIntosh made three appearances inside the circle and was 0-1 with a 7.88 ERA. She pitched 13 and one-thirds innings, giving up 21 runs -15 earned- on 27 hits with five strikeouts and four walks.
Milan (4-4) is set to be back in action today at Oldenburg Academy before a home opener on Wednesday against Franklin County.
