Lady Pirates slip by Batesville

Batesville volleyball suffered its first defeat on Monday night, falling 3-2 to Greensburg in a battle of Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference rivals.
Greensburg, who serves as defending sectional champion in Class 3A, is now 6-3 on the season after falling to only Class 4A schools. in Greenfield-Central and Lawrence North alongside conference foe Lawrenceburg who won 3-2 on Tuesday night.
The Lady Bulldogs owned a 2-1 lead after wins of 25-18 in set one and 28-26 in set three but Greensburg fought tooth and nail to climb back. A set four decision of 25-22 tied the match and a fifth and decisive set saw the Lady Pirates win by a 15-12 margin to claim the match. Ari Powner led the way for Batesville with 21 assists and four aces on 23-of-23 serving.
Reesa Zimmerman added 24 digs and 23 kills and Anya Richey was credited with 23 digs. Brooke Wilhelm chipped in 27 assists, which was a team-high.
Batesville (2-1, 1-0 EIAC) was at Franklin County on Tuesday for a conference match and is at East Central this evening for an EIAC matchup.
