Lady Raider volleyball goes 2-3

South Ripley volleyball faced stiff competition on Saturday in tournament play before rebounding back with an important Ohio River Valley Conference victory on Tuesday night.
The Lady Raiders made their first appearance on Saturday in the always tough Franklin Invitational which also featured Batesville. After defeating Class 4A Lawrence Central by blowout set scores of 25-9 and 25-11, the green and white ran into a trio of buzzsaws, including the Lady Bulldogs who were a 2-0 winner over their county rival.
Batesville won that match with a 25-20 win in set one and then a narrow 28-26 extra effort in set two. South Ripley’s other two losses included a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Indianapolis Bishop Chatard (25-15 and 25-23) while also dropping a 2-0 decision to host Franklin Community by scores of 25-13 and 25-17.
Ellie Lauber had nine digs and Katelynn Samples recorded six service points in the loss to Franklin while Brionna Linkel had eight service points, five kills, six assists and six digs against Chatard. Kaidyn Gilipin was 14-of-14 on receptions against Batesville with seven digs and three kills. Sierra Jessee added eight digs. The win against Lawrence Central saw Kylie Demaree go for five digs and Macy Stone record 14 points, three aces, three kills, three assists and two digs.
South Ripley came back on Tuesday, beating Switzerland County by a 3-0 score in Vevay to remain unbeaten against ORVC teams. The victory was the second of the year for the Lady Raiders against the Lady Pacers.
Statistics from the match were unable to be provided by time of print due to the contest ending late on Tuesday. South Ripley is now 12-10 overall with a 2-0 mark in the conference. The Lady Raiders are home tonight against ORVC rival Jac-Cen-Del.
