Lady Raiders roll over Milan
A Ripley County girls basketball showdown on Tuesday night saw host Milan battle back from an early first quarter deficit but South Ripley gained all momentum in the second half and the Lady Raiders found themselves a 67-37 winner over the Lady Indians.
The victory was the first for new South Ripley head coach Brad Goldsberry while Milan is now winless in its first two games of the season.
Tuesday looked like an early rollover for South Ripley who led 15-2 at the first stop but Milan battled back and closed the gap to 29-21 by halftime. The Lady Raiders recovered from a brief setback and an 18-8 run put them back in the driver’s seat before a 20-8 spurt in the fourth quarter solidified a blowout win.
Three players scored in double figures for the green and white, led by Aubrey Werner who posted a career-high 20 points with 15 of those points coming in the second and third quarters. Claire Samples put up 11 points in the first half en route to 14 points and Kaiya Rinear, a transfer from Milan, added 12 points.
Autumn Rohrig led Milan with 15 points. Anna Herzog and Gabby Williamson scored eight points apiece.
South Ripley (1-1) is home tonight against Waldron before a Saturday showdown in Versailles against Ohio River Valley Conference rival Jac-Cen-Del. That will be followed by a Tuesday game at home against South Decatur.
Milan (0-2) is at home this evening against Hauser.
