Legion shooters capture ISRPA crown
Versailles American Legion Post #173 started the month of March in winning fashion, claiming a state championship in Fort Wayne. All Post #173 shooters finished in the Top 25 on the individual leaderboard.
It took a couple tries this season but finally emerging on top once again was a perennial power as the Versailles American Legion Post #173 junior shooting team won the Indiana State Rifle and Pistol Association 3P State Championship earlier this month.
The match on March 1 took place in Fort Wayne. Versailles was one of eight teams in the field and won the state championship with a score of 2122.9.
Bellmont fielded five teams among the eight and tooks spots two through four along with six and eight. Middlebury placed fifth and Culver sat seventh.
For Post #173 it was the first state crown of the season but with regards to individual state honors, it was the third championship for Charlotte Queen of Versailles who came out on top of the leaderboard with an overall score of 556.6. Brother Sam Queen was state runner-up with a 543.4. Charlotte was atop the kneeling and standing shoots while Sam won the prone shoot.
Also in the top five for Versailles was Chloe Grable who was fourth with a 525.7. Quinn Faust at 497.2, Ayden Boyce with a 423.4 and Michaela Brizius at 415.1 rounded out Post #173 and all finished in the Top 25.
