Leising says home was target of pipe bomb threat
With all the turmoil going on in the world today, it wasn’t shocking to hear about longtime local State Senator Jean Leising saying her house as the target of a pipe bomb threat last Saturday evening, November 29. The threat was investigated by the Oldenburg Town Marshal, Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and the Indiana State Police.
Leising wrote, “All is okay… (I’m) hoping that legislators will not cave to the negative texts, phone calls, swatting, bomb threats, etc.” We have to do what is right for our Indiana constituents.”
The Republican Senator from Oldenburg noted that this threat was the result of Washington, D.C. political pundits who are in favor of Indiana redrawing its Congressional maps mid-cycle. She said only seven percent of her constituents in Senate District 42 are in favor of the mid-cycle redistricting effort. She says she will continue to serve her constituents.
The Martz Campaign is sickened by the news that State Senator Jean Leising was the target of a bomb threat this past weekend for doing her job — listening to her constituents and representing their stated wishes on the issue of mid-decade redistricting.
“No one should ever face threats, intimidation, or harm for carrying out their public duties,” said Victoria Martz. “Political violence is abhorrent in every form.”
The campaign expressed deep gratitude to Senator Leising for standing up for the people of the district and for honoring what she heard from them, despite violent threats attempting to pressure her to do otherwise.
“In moments like this, we must come together as a community. We must reject violence unequivocally, and we should fully investigate this threat so the responsible individual can be held accountable under the law,” the statement continued.
The Martz Campaign also extended thanks to local law enforcement agencies for responding swiftly and for working every day — including during the holidays — to keep Indiana families safe.
