Local schools schedule fall openers
As July comes to a close next week, fall sports are set to take off once August rolls around on the calendar and all five coverage area schools have released season-openers for each sport.
August 2 is the first date this upcoming school year where a fall sports team will be able to officially begin practices. Girls golf kicks off on that day and all other fall sports begin practices on August 5.
The earlier start means girls golf will be the first out for regular season competition and that begins with Batesville girls golf competing at the Richmond Invitational on August 5 and that will be followed by Jac-Cen-Del girls golf at the Belterra Golf Resort on August 8. South Ripley is scheduled to start its season one night later at Butler Falls Golf Course in Hanover and Milan begins a week later on August 15 at the same location.
Oldenburg Academy’s girls golf team is currently not slated to open until August 22 when they host a match at Hillcrest.
The following are opening contests for remaining fall sports teams at each respective school inside the coverage area per each school’s athletics website:
Batesville – Cross Country, August 17, at Terre Haute Valley Kickoff; Girls Soccer, August 17, at Greenfield-Central; Boys Tennis, August 17, vs Richmond; Boys Soccer, August 20, at Greenfield-Central; Volleyball, August 20, vs Madison; Football, August 23, at Triton Central. Jac-Cen-Del – Volleyball, August 17, at Morristown Invitational; Boys Soccer, August 21, at Milan. Milan – Boys Soccer, August 19, at Switzerland County; Girls Soccer, August 19, at Switzerland County; Boys Tennis, August 20, vs Batesville; Volleyball, August 20, vs South Dearborn; Cross Country, August 21, at Rising Sun; Football, August 23, at Rushville.
Oldenburg Academy – Boys Soccer, August 17, at East Central; Girls Soccer, August 17, at South Dearborn; Volleyball, August 21, at Switzerland County; Cross Country, August 24, at Richmond Invitational. These opening matchups exclude any preseason scrimmages set for the first part of August. Schedules are subject to change throughout the course of the season.
