Locals swim at L’Burg Invite

Batesville and Milan both sent their high school swim teams to Lawrenceburg this past Saturday to compete in the annual Lawrenceburg Invitational.
Schools from both Indiana and Ohio competed in the event which saw both the Bulldogs and the Indians in the upper-tier of the team standings.
Batesville’s girls won the invitational after scoring 276 points and Milan was runner-up at 224 points. Southwestern (Hanover) scored 182 points, Harrison (Ohio) sat fourth with 151 points and Ross (Ohio) rounded out the top five at 141 points. Other teams competing included the host Tigers and Rising Sun.
The Lady Bulldogs got a four-win performance from Isabel Raab who was named the Most Valuable Performer at the invitational. Raab won both the 50 and 100 freestyle events and then joined up to deliver two relay wins for Batesville, taking top honors in the 200 medley and freestyle relays. Cora Miller, Sarah Bedel and Sam Adams also swam the 200 medley and it was Cora Miller, Emma Miller, Raab and Adams in the 200 freestyle relay.
Bedel also earned an individual win in the 100 breaststroke.
Lainey Stock, Kayleigh McIntosh, Molly Knecht and Ashlyn DeWire gave Milan a second place finish in the 200 medley relay. Stock finished runner-up in the girls 500 freestyle and third in the 200 freestyle and DeWire was runner-up in the 50 freestyle. Knecht swam third in the 200 freestyle.
Harrison scored 314 points to win the boys invitational, Ross was second with 213 points and Milan finished third with 168 points, edging out fourth place Batesville by five points. Rising Sun, Lawrenceburg and Shawe Memorial rounded out the standings.
Seth Thomas in the 100 backstroke and JJ Mutz in the 100 breaststroke provided Milan’s two wins on the boys side. The duo each finished runner-up in the 200 individual medley and 100 fly respectively. Lucas Cooney scored a third place spot in the 500 freestyle and it was Cooney, Mutz, Thomas and Tyler Myers swimming second in the 200 medley relay.
Batesville’s Matthew Lambert was a winner in the 50 freestyle and Ben Kuntz won the 500 freestyle.
The Bulldogs were at Centerville on Tuesday night while Milan’s next meet is this evening at home against East Central.
