Madison man loses life in collision

Pictured at left, the roadway was closed for hours as reconstructionists worked at the scene. First responders from both Holton and Versailles responded to the scene on US 50 just east of Holton.
On Sunday, February 15, around 3 p.m. a near head-on crash claimed the life of Tyler Dukes, 37, of Madison. The crash occurred on US 50 at County Road 600 West just outside Holton.
According to information from the Indiana State Police, the passenger vehicle, driven by Dukes, was traveling eastbound on US 50 in a 2008 Mercury Mariner. Dukes’ vehicle crossed the centerline into the path of a westbound 2022 Volvo semi rig. The vehicles collided nearly head-on in the westbound lane of US 50.
Initial responders found the passenger vehicle overturned in the roadway and the commercial motor vehicle overturned off the north side of the roadway. Dukes was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the semi was Richard Murray, 26, of Spring Hill, Florida. He was taken to Margaret Mary Hospital in Batesville for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.
The roadway was closed for a few hours with the Indiana State Police-Versailles District Crash Reconstruction Team investigating the scene. The investigation is ongoing with toxicology results pending on both drivers at this time.
Indiana State Police was assisted by the Ripley County Sheriff’s Office, Indiana Conservation Officers, Holton Fire Department, Versailles Fire and Rescue, Ripley County EMS and the Ripley County Coroner’s Office.
