Make it 6-straight! Lady Bulldogs are sectional champs

Batesville girls golf captured its sixth-straight IHSAA Girls Golf Sectional this past Saturday, winning this year’s sectional by 65 strokes. The Lady Bulldogs head to Franklin this weekend for the regional.
Batesville girls golf just continues a historical run inside Southeastern Indiana and it is now officially five years of domination after the Lady Bulldogs claimed another IHSAA Girls Golf Sectional Championship at the Greensburg Country Club.
The fifth title in a row for Batesville came in dominant fashion as the Lady Bulldogs won by 65 strokes.
It was really no surprise that it was Batesville on top and the Lady Bulldogs carded an 18-hole team score of 320 to take the win. East Central and Greensburg are also regional bound, finishing as top three schools with scores of 385 and 388. Shelbyville and Franklin County rounded out the top five. With regards to the coverage area, Jac-Cen-Del, South Ripley, Milan and Oldenburg Academy took spots 7 through 10 on the 11-team leaderboard.
The Lady Eagles scored a 441, the Lady Raiders shot a 460, the Lady Indians were back at 469 and the Lady Twisters totaled a 478.
East Central’s Rowan Pies was the individual sectional champion, clipping future University of Illinois-Chicago teammate and Batesville senior Ava South. Pies finished with a three-under par 68 and South sat at 69 to lead the pack. Batesville’s Zoey Ahern was third overall after finishing at 80.
An 85 from Alexis Gallagher and an 86 from Stella Maple rounded out scoring for Batesville. Grace Saner shot a 92 in a non-scoring round. Jac-Cen-Del was led by Claire Heilers at 100, Cheyenne Cullen followed at 107 and Nautia Wiliams was four strokes back of Cullen with a 111. The Lady Eagle round was finished out by Madison Bunnell’s 123.
Callie Comer led South Ripley with a 105, Grace Bedel’s 104 paced Milan and Oldenburg got a 115 from Laney Wuestefel. The following are remaining coverage area individual scores: South Ripley – Jocelyn Meador, 116; Kayleigh Beardon, 119; Aubrey Henry, 120; Kelly Lohrum, 121. Milan – Kaitlynn Hicks, 112; Lily Potter, 115; Maya Horton, 138. Oldenburg – Ava Legge, 117; Anne Kraus, 120; Cecelia Wolfe, 126; Frankie Fry, 130.
The top three golfers from non-qualifying schools in the sectional also earn automatic bids to the regional. That group included North Decatur’s Mary Stier and Shelbyville’s Riley Everette with a 94 apiece and Franklin County’s Emma Tolhurst at 96.
The IHSAA Girls Golf Regional Championship will be this Saturday at The Legends Golf Club in Franklin. State finals bids will be handed out to the top three scoring teams along with the top three individuals from non-qualifying schools. The regional is set to begin at 8:30 a.m.
