Meyers Funeral Home in Batesville celebrated 100 years of service to the community with a public celebration at 1150 State Road 46 on Thursday, Oct. 3. Everyone came out to show their support and congratulations to the Meyers, enjoying a night filled with food, live music and tours of their facilities.
Meyers has history with their family business. Walter Meyers founded the funeral home. Years ago, families would have services in their homes and then wanted to have services and visitation at a local funeral home. In the late 1930’s to make more room to accommodate the public, he moved the business to his mother’s (Martha Meyers) at 500 West Pearl St. in Batesville. Walter and Lillie’s son, Nelson G. Meyers, graduated from Mortuary school in 1949. Nelson and his wife, Margaret, continued to operate the funeral services while living upstairs above the funeral home and raising their family.
After service in the Navy from 1977 to 1980, Rodger Meyers graduated from Mid America College of Funeral Service in Louisville, KY in 1984 and joined his father, Nelson. When Nelson was ready to retire in the early 1990’s, Rodger took over the funeral home business.
When the school corporation decided to purchase the funeral home location on West Pearl Street, Rodger and his wife, Taaron, decided that they would build a new facility on Hwy 46 in Batesville that opened on Sept. 3, 2014. They are both actively involved in the business with their staff filled with knowledge to provide quality service to families in their funeral planning and cremation needs.
Congratulations for 100 years of service to the community, and for your dedication and compassion to those in need.
