Milan boys play three

Tommy Poole threw five innings and struck out six last Friday, lifting Milan to a win over Rising Sun.
Milan baseball got in three games late last week, going 1-2 in that stretch which included, a pair of Ohio River Valley Conference games.
The Indians fell 7-1 at Switzerland County on Wednesday but came back with a 13-6 victory on Friday in a home game against Rising Sun. Milan dropped a 12-2 decision at South Dearborn on Saturday as part of a nonconference tilt.
Five runs in the bottom of the third inning was a big difference on Wednesday as Switzerland County used that to add to a 1-0 advantage. The Pacers (3-1, 1-1 ORVC) made it 7-0 in the fifth inning before Milan put up its only run in the top of the sixth. Altogether, Milan’s offense had just three hits while the defense had six fielding errors.
Noah Morgan had a hit and run scored for Milan while Brady Alcorn and Caydin Davidson had a base hit apiece. Alcorn was the losing pitcher, giving up six runs -one earned- on five hits through three innings. He had three strikeouts and a walk. Jackson Voss allowed an unearned run on two hits in relief.
Zayne Smith got the Pacer win on the mound, allowing an unearned run on three hits with nine strikeouts and a walk. Smith, alongside Roman Hite, paced the Switzerland County offense with two hits apiece and a combined three RBI.
Milan’s Wednesday win saw them trail Rising Sun 3-2 going into the bottom of the second inning before outscoring the Shiners 11-3 the rest of the way. That included three runs in the bottom of the second and eight runs in the bottom of the sixth.
The Indians busted out with 10 hits and with that was three players with two hits apiece. Alcorn had two singles, two RBI and a run and both John McKeown and Dillan Engel had two hits, a run and RBI. Morgan drove in two runs and scored once with a hit, Matthew Baylorwent 1-for-3 with two runs and both Voss and Grant Langferman notched a hit. Voss’s two RBI added to Langferman’s run scored.
Tommy Poole got the pitching win, going five innings and giving up four runs -two earned- on four hits with six strikeouts and five walks.
Clinton Crandall had two hits for Rising Sun (1-3, 0-2 ORVC). Shiner pitcher Weston Cumberworth received the loss, allowing six runs -three earned- on five hits through five innings with four walks and three strikeouts.
A Saturday finale for the black and gold saw host South Dearborn (4-2) score three runs in four of the six innings played. The final three in the bottom of the sixth inning ended the game with the mercy rule in effect. Milan was limited to two hits and scored its only two runs in the top of the first inning.
Morgan’s first inning double plated both runs and Davidson scored a run after a base hit. Tommy Poole also came across home plate in the top of the first. South Dearborn’s Izaak Lozier started on the bump and got the win, lasting four innings and giving up two earned runs on two hits with six strikeouts and three walks.
Davidson received the loss for Milan, giving up six runs -five earned- on seven hits in three innings. He walked three and struck out two.
Milan (1-4) hosted Jac-Cen-Del in ORVC action on Monday.
